Hereford Big Band
The Hereford Big Band was formed in 1989 from a nucleus of local musicians who had originally played in the dance bands of Herefordshire in the 1940's and 1950's. Since its formation the band has evolved and established itself as the foremost band of its kind in the region. Its membership is made up of semi-professionals and enthusiastic amateurs from all age groups making it a truly community band and currently numbers approximately 22 players playing Trombones, Trumpets and Saxophones along with Vocalists and a rhythm section.
The band plays a wide repertoire of favourites from the Big Band swing era including numbers from Glenn Miller, Count Basie and Dizzy Gillespie. They also play many other styles popular in the late 20th century including some contemporary arrangements of well known traditional and modern jazz classics. While Leader of the band, Andi Licquorish has written many arrangements especially for the band.
Hereford Big Band travels extensively in the region and plays regularly for a wide range of engagements. Events range from weddings and anniversaries, concerts, corporate dinners and dances, civic functions, country shows, food fairs and other promotional events and its reputation is growing all the time.
